Be the Weed
A lot of people I know are going through some rough times right now, whether it’s a personal struggle with depression or addiction, a significant life change like the end of a relationship, or even a physical injury that’s limiting and holding us back. These times can be incredibly frustrating and make us feel like it’s just not worth it, like we don’t have the strength to keep fighting and just want to give up. We may feel so overwhelmed by everything going on that we don’t even know where to begin. If you find yourself in a situation like this and you feel like you’re really struggling to try and keep it all together, then you’re exactly who I am writing this for.
I came across a video (link at the bottom of the page) on Facebook earlier that my friend Chrystal Kubis posted in which she is delivering a similar message to the one I hope to compose this evening. It got me thinking about what I might have to say to those suffering quietly, feeling stuck, and like there is no hope. What advice and support might I be able to offer based on my own experiences? One analogy she used was likening us all to plants, to seeds planted here on earth.
Plants can be bent, broken, or cut down but they will keep growing and reaching up towards the light. You can stunt their growth by depriving them of nutrients and poisoning their environment but once they start getting the things they need, they begin to grow and do so very quickly. Think about the weeds in your garden, no matter how many times you pull them out, trying to completely destroy them, they come right back. Be the weed! And yes, I laughed at that too as soon as I thought of it but if you’re laughing or smiling that’s a great first step!
We are not so different from plants. The human spirit is a truly remarkable thing and can overcome so much! It may seem like right now all you can see is the darkness all around, like an eternal night, and you feel like the sun will never come back out. Or maybe it seems like the dawn has come only to be a dark, cold, and rainy day. These are the times to let your roots run deeper so that when the sun re-emerges, you have the strength and support you need to grow ever upwards and reach new heights.
Use this time to really dig down deep and get to the root of what is going on in your life and start healing. Maybe you’ll find that the reason you feel so stuck and like you just can’t seem to grow any further is simply because you’ve outgrown the pot you’re in, your environment is limiting you and preventing you from expanding to your full potential.
If so, it’s time for a change! After all, if what you’re doing isn’t working, what other options do you have but to make a change? Change can be uncomfortable and scary. But staying where you are now isn’t exactly much fun either, and it’s not going to get you to where you want to be, so don’t let fears of change get you down. Keep pushing and reaching out. Ask for help when you need it and make sure you are getting the support you need! Don’t give up! Keep reaching for the light!
Maybe it’s just a matter of what is IN your environment, not necessarily the size. Are you surrounding yourself with the experiences and the people that support you and your growth, or are you surrounded by people and things that poison you and use up all the stuff that you need? If this is the case, it’s time to start weeding the garden so to speak (I know I said “Be the weed”, but that was more in the sense of inspiring tenacity and a fighting spirit).
If no one has told you lately, you are amazing! You’re unique and wonderful in your own incredible way! You have gifts to share with the world and experiences that can help and uplift others, every single one of you. I don’t care what you’ve been through or are going through now, you are worth it, and you deserve to be happy. Don’t let the darkness overwhelm you, keep growing and know that the sun will rise and that when it does, you will be that much stronger for having made it through the night! Thanks for reading, and if there is anything I can do to help support you in your growth, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
